Holiday Card Photos in Munich: Why Families Make It a Yearly Tradition

The holidays really are the most magical time of year. And yet, somehow, September to December goes by faster than the rest of the year combined.

For most families in Munich, fall is a blur. Back to school. After-school activities. A quick weekend trip to the Alps while the weather holds. Then suddenly it’s December. There’s Nikolaustag to prepare for, Advent calendars to fill, and a gift list that keeps getting longer.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, you remember: you wanted to send out a holiday card this year. The only problem? You don’t have a single photo of all of you together.

Sound familiar? Here’s how I make holiday card photos in Munich easy (and actually fun).

That’s why I love to offer families a fun seasonal special. My holiday sessions are short, fun, and laid-back. No decorated sets. Just your family spending time together at a beautiful Christmas tree farm near Munich. Rows of trees, rosy cheeks, cold noses.

I’ll guide you through the a few quick poses so you get that one photo for the front of the card. Then we let things loosen up. Kids run between the trees. Someone gets carried on shoulders. There’s plenty of room for giggles and snuggles in between.

Your kids don’t need to behave perfectly. They just need to be themselves.

And a little bonus: many internationals families have never been to a local tree farm before. After our session, you’ll know exactly where to come back and cut your own Christmas tree in Munich!

Annual Family Photos: Starting a Holiday Tradition

Here’s the thing I love most about holiday sessions: they’re the same every year, and completely different every year.

Same season. Same setting. But your toddler is now running ahead instead of being carried. The baby on your hip is suddenly the one wanting to pick out the tree.

When you do annual family photos in the same place each year, you don’t just get a holiday card. You get a side-by-side story of how your family is growing.

And kids love having something to look forward to. “Is it time for our tree photos yet?” becomes part of the season, right alongside the first Christmas market visit and opening the first door of the Advent calendar.

More Than a Family Photo for Your Holiday Card

Yes, these sessions are perfect for holiday card family photos. Your gallery arrives within 2 weeks, right in time to order cards and get them in the post.

But the photos end up doing so much more than that.

  • Gifts for the grandparents. Especially if family lives far away, a framed print or a small album means more than anything you could buy.
  • That photo book you keep meaning to make. Your holiday photos are the perfect final chapter of the year.
  • Prints for your own walls. Because you deserve to see your family every day, not just on your phone.

Years from now these photos will be the ones your kids will look back on.

When to Book Holiday Card Photos in Munich

Holiday sessions are a limited offer. I open just a handful of spots, and they go fast.

For 2026, every spot sold out within a week.

If you’d like a spot next year, the best way to get one is to join my newsletter. My email list is the first to hear about holiday dates before they’re shared anywhere else.

And if you’re hoping for family photos before then, I photograph families across Munich all year round.

Maddy

Meg is truly a gift behind the camera. She captured both my maternity and newborn photos. She captures the love and little in-between moments so effortlessly. Looking through the photos, I see not just what we looked like in those special days, but exactly how we felt. If you’re looking for someone who is not only incredibly talented but also deeply kind and grounded, Meg is the one.
