Moving to Munich with kids is exciting and exhausting in equal measure. One of the first things on the to-do list? Finding a good doctor for your children. And if German isn’t your strongest language yet, or you just feel more at ease talking about fevers and rashes in English, that search can feel surprisingly stressful.

I’m Meg, a family and newborn photographer, and a mom of 2 girls based in Munich. Getting to photograph families in Munich at every stage from newborn to teens means I spend a lot of time talking to other english-speaking and expat families about their experiences living in Munich. I know this question comes up again and again in local groups on Facebook and local WhatsApp parent circles. So I put this resource together based on what families in those groups have shared. Think of this as a starting point: a list of practices that other English-speaking parents in Munich have mentioned or found helpful.

Always do your own research, call ahead, and trust your gut when you meet a new doctor.

Why It Matters to Find a Pediatrician Who Speaks Your Language

When your child is unwell, the last thing you want is to struggle to explain symptoms or miss important details because of a language gap. Feeling understood by your doctor matters. It affects how confident you feel, how clearly you can ask questions, and how well you can follow the advice you’re given. While most doctors are highly trained and many do speak some English, there’s an extra level of comfort for expat and international parents to find a recommendation for a peditrician who works often in English.

A Note from Me

I hope this takes some of the stress out of one more item on your Munich settling-in list. Finding the right pediatrician is such a personal decision. If you know of a practice that should be on this list, or if any details have changed, I’d love to hear from you. Drop me a message and I’ll update this resource.

And if you’re in the newborn or family phase and thinking about capturing these fleeting moments, I’d love to help. I photograph families and newborns across Munich, with a calm and guided approach that works even when your toddler has other ideas.

Please note: The practices listed here have been shared by members of Munich’s expat parent community. This is not an endorsement or personal recommendation from Hoechsmann Photography. Information including insurance types and contact details may change, so please verify directly with the practice before booking.

Maddy

Meg is truly a gift behind the camera. She captured both my maternity and newborn photos. She captures the love and little in-between moments so effortlessly. Looking through the photos, I see not just what we looked like in those special days, but exactly how we felt. If you’re looking for someone who is not only incredibly talented but also deeply kind and grounded, Meg is the one.
