What Happens After Your Newborn Photoshoot? Everything You Need to Know

A peacefully sleeping baby dressed in white lies comfortably on striped fabric during newborn session.

Ok, we did it! Your newborn photoshoot is complete, and now it’s time to breathe a sigh of relief, put back on your yoga pants, and soak in those sweet newborn snuggles. The hardest part is over, and now the fun part begins—seeing your beautiful images come to life.

The anticipation has been building for weeks—preparing for birth, adjusting to life with your little one, and wondering how the newborn session would go. Now that it’s done, you might be wondering what happens next. How long will it take to receive your images? How do you download them? What’s the best way to print them? It’s important to me that you’re never left guessing along the way, so here’s everything you need to know about what comes next.

The Process Behind the Scenes

After I leave your home, my work continues as I begin carefully handling and curating your images. The first step is backing them up to multiple locations to ensure they are completely safe. Once that’s done, I begin selecting the very best images from your session.

I love capturing movement, connection, and those fleeting in-between moments. After some newborn sessions, I may have up to 1,200 images on my camera. But trust me, you don’t need (or want!) 1,200 photos. My goal is to deliver a beautifully curated gallery, not overwhelm you with choices.

To do this, I go through a careful selection process, removing images that are blurry, have unintentional closed eyes, or where someone isn’t looking their best. I take my time, revisiting the images with fresh eyes over the course of a few days. This ensures that every final image truly reflects the tenderness, connection, and love within your family. The goal is to create a gallery that tells your story in the most natural and heartfelt way.

Once I’ve selected the final set of images, I move on to editing. This includes adjusting colors and tones to ensure your photos have a timeless, natural look. Some images will be converted to black and white if they have a particularly emotional feel to them. I also take time to remove any minor distractions—like temporary newborn redness or small skin imperfections—so that the focus remains on the beauty of your baby and family.

Receiving Your Online Gallery

Once your images are fully edited, they will be uploaded to your private online gallery. You will receive an email with a link to access your photos. The gallery is designed to be easy to navigate, allowing you to view, download, and share your images effortlessly. In fact, the first thing you’ll see is a pop-up guide showing you how to navigate.

You’ll have full access to download all your images right away with just one click. You’ll find the download icon on the top right of your gallery. You’ll be able to decide if you’d like to download in high-res or web-sized. If you’re printing your images, definitely select the high-res, otherwise web-sized is enough.

If you really want to make your photographer’s day, then use the favorites list! Just click the heart on your favorite images and share which images resonate the most with you. It is always fun to see which images you connect the most with.

Your gallery will remain open for four weeks, so be sure to download and back up your images. I always recommend saving them in multiple places, including an external hard drive or cloud storage, to keep them safe for years to come.

Printing Your Photos

There is something truly special about seeing your newborn photos printed. Digital images are wonderful for sharing, but prints turn those moments into tangible memories that you can hold in your hands and enjoy every day. Through your online gallery, you have the option to order professional prints and albums.

I work with Loxley, a professional printing lab, to ensure that your images are printed with exceptional quality, accurate colors, and beautiful finishes. Unlike drugstore or budget photo labs such as DM or Rossmann, which often produce prints that are overly saturated, discolored, or lack sharpness, professional prints guarantee that your photos look exactly as intended—soft, timeless, and true to life. Investing in high-quality prints means your images will stand the test of time, without fading or losing their vibrancy.

If you would like a custom-designed album, I’d love to create one for you. Albums are a beautiful way to tell the full story of your baby’s earliest days and make a meaningful keepsake for years to come. If you’re interested, just let me know!

Being Here for You Every Step of the Way

I want every step of this process to feel easy and enjoyable for you. From the moment we started planning your session to the moment you receive your images and hold your printed memories in your hands, my goal is to make this an experience you love—not just a photoshoot, but a seamless and stress-free journey.

If you have any questions about your gallery, prints, or albums, or if you just need a little guidance on making the most of your images, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to help! Thank you for trusting me to be a part of your family’s journey. It truly means the world to me, and I can’t wait for you to enjoy your beautiful photos for years to come!
