Why Maternity Photos Are Worth It

Documenting the Before: Why Maternity Photos Are Worth It

If you’re expecting a baby, chances are you’ve thought about booking a newborn session. But have you considered maternity photos, too?

Expecting parents tend to fall into one of two camps: either they’ve always known they want to document their pregnancy, or they haven’t really considered it. If you’re unsure, I get it! There are plenty of reasons you might hesitate—but let’s talk through some of the most common concerns and why maternity photos are absolutely worth it.

Let’s Address the Most Common Maternity Photo Hesitations

“I don’t want a bunch of pictures of just me.”

I hear this a lot, but here’s the thing: maternity photos aren’t just about you. My goal is to capture connection—the love that’s already growing between you, your baby, and your family. If you have a partner, children, or even a pet, they can (and should!) absolutely be part of your session. And those solo bump photos? They’re not just about how you look; they’re about capturing the incredible journey you’re on, the relationship already forming between you and your baby.

“I don’t feel comfortable in my body right now.”

Pregnancy is full of changes, and it’s completely normal to have moments where you don’t feel your best. But trust me when I say that maternity photography is designed to celebrate you and the beauty of this time in your life. I’ll guide you through flattering poses and help you choose outfits that highlight your bump in a way that makes you feel comfortable and confident. Many of my clients have told me that seeing their photos actually helped them appreciate their pregnant body in a way they hadn’t before.

“Maternity photos feel too staged for me.”

If you’re picturing elaborate gowns, dramatic lighting, and over-the-top poses, don’t worry—that’s not my approach. As a lifestyle maternity photographer, I focus on natural, relaxed images that reflect you. Whether we’re in your home or outside in a beautiful setting, my goal is to create genuine, heartfelt images that feel like you, not a staged version of yourself.

“It’s not my first baby—haven’t we done this all before?”

Every pregnancy is unique, and it’s a moment of transition for your whole family. Taking a pause to capture this time is a way to honor this chapter before everything changes again. Plus, if you have older children, a maternity session is a wonderful way to include them and document their excitement about becoming a big sibling.

Why I Offer Maternity Session Add-Ons

I completely understand these hesitations because I felt them myself. When I was pregnant, I didn’t have professional maternity photos taken. At the time, I was too hung up in how I felt in my body and my own insecurities. I have one selfie that my best friend forced me to take, and looking back I regret not taking more. What I see now looking back at my self during that time is a sense of wonder. I see the anticipation and hope. And I am totally amazed that my wild child was once a little spark inside of me.

That’s exactly why I created collections with multiple sessions to make it easy to capture every important moment. I want to take the pressure off, make the experience comfortable and connection-focused, and give you the chance to capture this huge milestone without the stress of booking an entirely separate session.

Here’s how it works:

If you book a newborn session with me, you have the option to add on milestone sessions of your choosing through “The Milestone Collections” offer. Each milestone session is a short and sweet 30-minute session designed to document your selected milestone in a meaningful way and can be scheduled anytime within 15 months of your newborn session. This makes it easy for you to choose what you want to capture—whether it’s pregnancy, a 6/9-month milestone session, or even a family session at one year.

You’ll receive all the digital images from your session, so you don’t have to choose just a few favorites.

From bump to baby’s first year, these multi-session collections are built for intentional storytelling and meaningful savings along the way. The first Milestone Session add-on is 300 €, with any additional milestones at 250 € each.

One Day, You’ll Be Glad You Did It

I know it can be hard to imagine wanting maternity photos when you’re in the thick of pregnancy. But I’ve never had a client tell me they regretted taking them—only that they wished they had.

Pregnancy brings about a wave of emotions and changes, and while you may not feel like you need these photos right now, your future self (and your child) will be grateful you have them. I’d love to help you document this time in a way that feels relaxed, meaningful, and true to you. If you have any questions or want to chat about which bundle might be the best fit for your family, reach out anytime— I’m here to help!
