When I was pregnant, I didn’t take maternity photos.
I was too caught up in how I felt in my body, too unsure, too in my head about the whole thing. I have one selfie that my best friend basically forced me to take. Just one.
And looking back at it now, I don’t see any of the things I was worried about. I see wonder. I see anticipation. I see the version of me that had no idea yet what was coming. And I am completely amazed that my wild, chaotic, wonderful child was once a little spark right there.
I wish I had more.
That’s why I’m writing this. Because I talk to so many moms-to-be in Munich who aren’t really sure they need, and I want to be honest with you about what you might feel later if you skip them.
If you’ve already decided you want them, brilliant. But if you’re not sure yet, let’s talk through it.

I hear this a lot, but here’s the thing: maternity photos aren’t just about you. My goal not matter what kind of session I’m shooting is to capture connection: the love that’s already growing between you, your baby, and your family. If you have a partner, children, or even a dog, they absolutely belong in your session too. Some of my favourite maternity sessions I’ve shot here in Munich have included the whole family, chaos and all.

And those solo bump photos? They’re not just about how you look. They’re about capturing the incredible journey you’re on and the relationship already forming between you and your baby.
Pregnancy is full of changes, and it’s completely normal to have moments where you don’t feel your best. Your body is changing in different ways, sometimes pregnancy doesn’t feel smooth sailing and all glowy. Trust me, I understand.
But here’s what I’ve seen time and again: when moms finally see their photos, something shifts. Many of my clients tell me that seeing their images helped them appreciate their pregnant body in a way they hadn’t before. I’ll guide you through what works, help you choose outfits that feel comfortable and flattering, and make sure the whole experience feels easy rather than exposing.

If you’re picturing elaborate gowns, dramatic lighting, and over-the-top poses, don’t worry, that’s not what I do. As a lifestyle maternity photographer, I focus on natural, relaxed images that reflect you. Whether we’re in your home or outside in a beautiful part of Munich, my goal is to create genuine, heartfelt images that feel like you, not a staged version of yourself.

Every pregnancy is unique, and it’s a moment of transition for your whole family. Taking a pause to capture this time is a way to honor this chapter before everything changes again. Plus, if you have older children, a maternity session is a wonderful way to include them and document their excitement about becoming a big sibling.

I completely understand these hesitations because I felt them myself. So much changed for me with the birth of my first, and also arguably even more so with the birth of my second. During this time I not only became a mother and continue to grow into this role, I started Hoechsmann Photography, so that I could work with families in the way that felt right through my own experience as a parent.
And because I did, I wanted to make sure that the families I work with have every opportunity to capture these moments without it feeling like an overwhelming extra thing to organise.
If you book a newborn session with me, you have the option to add on milestone sessions through The Moments Collection or The Growing Collection. Each add-on is designed to document a meaningful milestone and can be scheduled anytime within 15 months of your newborn session. Whether that’s your pregnancy, a six or nine month milestone, or a family session at one year, you choose what matters most to you.
You’ll receive all the digital images from every session, so you never have to choose just a few favourites.
From bump to baby’s first year, these collections are built for families who want to tell the whole story.
I know there is a lot going on when you’re in the middle of pregnancy. But I have never had a client tell me she regretted taking maternity photos. Only that she regretted not taking them.
Pregnancy is one of the major transitional moments in life that genuinely cannot be recreated. And while you might not feel like you need these photos right now, your future self, and your child, will be so glad you have them.
If you’re expecting and based in Munich or the surrounding area, I’d love to help you document this time in a way that feels relaxed, meaningful, and completely true to you. Reach out anytime with questions or to find out more about which collection might be the right fit for your family.

Meg is truly a gift behind the camera. She captured both my maternity and newborn photos. She captures the love and little in-between moments so effortlessly. Looking through the photos, I see not just what we looked like in those special days, but exactly how we felt. If you’re looking for someone who is not only incredibly talented but also deeply kind and grounded, Meg is the one.
